Our Gateway To Becoming a More Trauma-Informed Nation

Meet Your Adventure Host, Connie Walcott

Hi there, Connie here. I am am ACEs recovery advocate with a unique blend of lived experience and professional expertise. It took a long time to walk through the healing journey I needed to overcome the SA of childhood that led to mental illness and homelessness, and that’s part of the reason I’m here to share my ACEs recovery adventures with you.

After decades of therapy work, and many, many, many “little talks with Jesus,” I am no longer defined by social isolation or chronic inpatient care. This transformational journey fuels my mission to educate, encourage and help transform our current recovery strategies on a national scale.

My early life was defined by a religious upbringing, but religion could not shine the light I needed to heal the injuries associated with early childhood assault, so Jesus pulled me out of my church environment and planted me in the great unknown territory of behavioral health care. It was an instantaneous and shocking transition, but when I was able to evaluate that process from hindsight; extraction from my church life was exactly the shift I needed to overcome the sorrows associated with my childhood gone wrong.

After years of being engaged in American behavioral health care, my business expertise now includes advocacy within government agencies, developing art-as-therapy projects, public speaking, and advocacy via social media. I’ve served as President of a Peer Support Drop-In Center, designed for empowering mental health care consumers, and as a Housing Support Specialist, where I provided onsite support and liaison to mental health professionals and first responder calls for our residents.

My skills also include engagement in peer support, community outreach, and leadership in trauma-informed research and development. I’m proud to have published my first ACEs recovery book on Amazon, sharing insights from my recovery to inspire and educate others about the trauma recovery process.

My decades-long journey to Oklahoma shapes a unique perspective on mental health initiatives. The fact that my quest for personal resilience has taken many years is best understood when you are able to recognize that personal mastery was delayed by decades of arrested childhood development.

I still seek to live my life through the lens of the Bible, but I see God’s word to me from a different perspective now!

Whether I’m discussing ACEs recovery through art as therapy support, sharing policy recommendations from my point of view, or sharing my story to help inspire change, my goal is to create compassionate, knowledgeable, and trauma-informed spaces where everyone can heal and thrive in a restorative, community environment.

That sounds a lot like church as it should be, doesn’t it?!

I invite you to connect with me for The Kataluma Adventure Tour, and consider how we might collaborate on mental health advocacy, recovery-focused projects, and creative opportunities to help restore the peace and prosperity in America, then eventually, to all points beyond.

That too, sounds a lot like church as it should be, doesn’t it?

Learning to improve the way we care for our widows and orphans is the heartbeat of Kataluma, so if you care about those who are hurting as much as I do… I invite you to join me for a behind the scenes look at the world of ACEs recovery, where we will work together to bridge the gap between orphans and the modern day, well-fed priesthood.

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for hope and a crafty, bright future!”
